Trevor Mills was born to be a folk musician. From a very early age he was attending festivals with his father, Paul Mills (producer, Stan Rogers) and hanging around with all the other folkie rugrats. Trevor is an occasional songwriter and a full-time bass player. He also produces the long-running Eaglewood Folk Festival.

The photos on April Verch’s seventh album are a bit deceiving. The freshly scrubbed beauty could be mistaken for a young television star versus an accomplished player and composer, who started stepdancing at age three and playing the fiddle at age six. By the age of ten she was winning fiddle contests and touring Canada, releasing two solo albums before graduating from high school.

Sid-Dolgay

SID DOLGAY


Sid Dolgay performed at the very first Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia in 1961 as a member of The Travellers, a Canadian folk singing group that formed in the summer of 1953. They are best known for their rendition of a Canadian version of This Land Is Your Land with lyrics that reference Canadian geography. The group was formed as a result of singalongs at Camp Naivelt, a Jewish socialist vacation community operated by the United Jewish Peoples’ Order. Pete Seeger was a regular visitor to the camp and encouraged the group.

Don Bray is a singer/songwriter/recordist with 4 solo cds and a duo cd with singer/songwriter cellist Alyssa Wright. He fell in love with recording when he watched his first cd being recorded in 1998. He’s been recording for 10 years.

In 1970 at the age of eleven he moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

THE KENNETTS


Well-known dance callers David and Ann Kennett are noted for the traditional Canadian content of their program. They call regularly for the Orillia Folk Society, Wye Marsh Heritage Day, Celtic Roots Folk Festival, and they call with The Kempencelts at Mariposa Folk Festival. Retired teachers, they are frequent visitors to area schools, teaching and advising staff on the dance component of the physical education program.

ALYSSA WRIGHT


Alyssa Wright is a classically-trained singer and cellist who now also performs roots, jazz and popular music (with the occasional operatic trill thrown in for goodmeasure!), some of which can be heard on her solo CD “Dark Waters” and “Live, Love Dream” by her duo, The Brights.
