Sarah Harmer

Brief Biography

A lovely voice....great lyrics.....memorable tunes..... a true professional with an incredibly tight band. These are the things you can expect from Sarah Harmer. See her Sunday night on Mainstage!

Burlington native Sarah Harmer returns to Mariposa for the third time. The last time - in 2005 - was the year that the festival was hit by a freak storm of biblical proportions on Friday night. Sarah was nearly rained out; Mainstage was completely ruined by the sudden and unexpected downpour. Like a true pro, she rallied the troops so to speak and when her show was moved to the beer tent, she put on quite an amazing show in the face of a difficult situation.

Sarah's music speaks to all ages and to all tastes. Her critically acclaimed CDs have appeal whether you like folk, rock, country or pop. Time magazine called her 2000 recording You Were Here "the best debut album of the year." The CD eventually certified platinum, an amazing fact for a first-timer. Sarah has also appeared as a guest vocalist on recordings by other artists such as Blue Rodeo, Great Big Sea, the Rheostatics, Bruce Cockburn, Skydiggers, The Weakerthans and Great Lake Swimmers.

Sarah is a dedicated environmentalist whose efforts to save the Niagara Escarpment have earned her accolades but more importantly have awakened the public to the complexities and urgencies of her cause. Her song Escarpment Blues is closely tied to this movement.

We are thrilled present Sarah as our Mainstage headliner on Sunday night!
