Nancy White

Brief Biography

One of the great names in Canadian comedy, Nancy White has her serious side as well. You'll probably get to hear both all weekend at Mariposa. Contrast Freefloating Anxiety with Piping Them Home and you'll see what we mean!

Your parents probably stayed home from church to hear Nancy White sing songs about the news on CBC's "Sunday Morning" in the 80's.

And in the 90's, your cousin gave birth to twins, and found that Nancy's "Momnipotent: Songs for Weary Parents" helped her from going insane.

If you're an L.M.Montgomery fan, you may have been drawn to the musical "Anne and Gilbert", which Nancy wrote with Bob Johnston and Jeff Hochhauser.

You may have heard her say she's "more cabaret than folk", then noticed she was carrying a banjo. She probably said it was for self-defense.

Nancy White has worked on the fringes of folk, theatre and journalism throughout her career. She's played at festivals all over the country, done symphony pops concerts and a lot of benefits! And she sings a bit in Spanish and French. Nancy writes a lot of novelty material, but when she gets serious she can nail you with songs like "Piping Them Home" of "When You Fall in Love Like That".

This range of sensibility means cd's like "Gaelic Envy" and "Stickers on Fruit" are like little variety shows with full band accompaniment.

Nancy will be accompanied at Mariposa by her daughter Suzy Wilde ("Flashlight Radio"/ "StoneFox") on keyboards.

We are very happy to have Nancy back at the festival once again!
