Although a relative newcomer to the Ontario music scene, Samantha Martin has already carved out a prominent place for herself alongside some of Toronto’s finest musicians.

Samantha takes pride in her ability to pull the audience into her songs, and is known for commanding vocal performances that leave people wondering how all that soulful power comes out of a five-foot frame.

In April 2008, she completed her first album, Back Home, and was in need of a full time band that could match her simplistic intensity.
A few months later Samantha had recruited Mikey McCallum, Greg Sweetland, Pete Lambert and Miranda Mulholland – The Haggard.
These days Samantha Martin and The Haggard are playing regularly, writing new songs and sharpening their sound. Being an unsigned independent act is not easy but they are earning the trust of their audiences as a consistent strength in Canada’s homegrown music scene.

Samantha Martin and The Haggard couldn’t be more pleased about being invited to play at the Mariposa Folk Festival 2009.
