During this Canada 150 celebration year, Mariposa Folk Festival is shining a spotlight on our country’s very rich folk-roots music heritage. One of the most influential groups ever to come out of Canada was The Band, a quintet of four Canadians and one American that created the musical foundation of the Americana movement. Roots music was forever changed.
In a very special presentation, Mariposa Folk Festival is proud to bring you ‘The Last Waltz – a Musical Celebration of The Band – Live’. This homage to The Band, whose farewell concert took place on American Thanksgiving Day in 1976 at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, summons the atmosphere of that famous event, as captured in Martin Scorcese’s award-winning concert film, The Last Waltz.
Under the direction of Juno award winning producer and musical director, Lance Anderson, a 9-piece all-star band and special guests will transport you back in time to one of the most famous music happenings in popular music history.
Hear your favourites ranging from The Weight, The Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down, Up On Cripple Creek, Life is a Carnival, The Shape I’m In, Rag Mama Rag, and It Makes No Difference, to Ophelia and many more.
‘The Last Waltz – a Musical Celebration of The Band – Live’, will be the festival closing Main Stage performance (Sunday evening)!
