Featuring Dave Bidini – a genuine renaissance man with Juno, Gemini, and Genie nominations, and a book in the national Canada Reads contest – Bidiniband is rounded out by fellow musical notables Don Kerr (member of the now disbanded Rheostatics, along with Bidini) on the drums, Paul Linklater on guitar, and Doug Friesen on bass. The band’s big rock sounds touch on familiar themes like pirates, dead hockey players, cannibalism, lesbian school teachers, war, dating, boating, Smurfs, the 80s, and movie-making. Dave’s latest book (McClelland & Stewart, publish date July 3rd, 2012), is a brilliantly original look at folk-rock legend, Gordon Lightfoot, and the momentous week in 1972 that culminated in the Mariposa Folk Festival.
