Jason Collett

Ontario - Folk Rock, Indie

Jason Collett has the closing spot in the Friday night main stage lineup and, when you hear him, you will know why. He is a gifted singer and songwriter with uncommon authenticity and a highly entertaining performance style. Jason, who began writing songs as a teenager, lists song masters Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan and Nick Lowe as important influences. For a short time he played with Hawksley Workman and Andrew Cash in a band called Bird, then he moved on to play guitar in Broken Social Scene. Jason is a musical mover and shaker on his way to becoming a household name.

Bramalea native Jason began writing songs as a teenager and lists Kris Kristofferson and Bob Dylan as two of his influences. For a short time he played with Hawksley Workman and Andrew Cash in a short-lived band called Bird. Jason then moved on to play guitar in Broken Social Scene.

In 2005 he recorded his third solo CD “Idols of Exile” which featured such up-and-coming people as Feist and Kevin Drew and members of the Montreal rockers Stars. His fifth solo album “Rat a Tat Tat” was released in March of this year.

Jason was part of a documentary series in 2009 called City Sonic which featured 20 artists. Jason’s part was to reflect on the Kensington Market district of downtown Toronto.

Jason takes his politics and his (organic) food very seriously, and we will be taking his music very seriously at Mariposa Folk Festival.
