Toronto songwriter Joshua Cockerill found his country roots growing up in Alberta, then moved to Toronto where he took to writing and performing alternative country music, reflecting his western pride with an eastern big-city sensibility.

After kicking around the local music scene for a few years, Joshua decided to break his piggy bank and independently finance his first recordings.

"I've known I wanted to be a musician since I was ten years old," says Cockerill, "You could say that everything I saved up over the years was preparing for the making of this album."

His debut album, "The Trick With Your Heart I'm Learning To Do", features guest appearances by Serena Ryder, Justin Rutledge, Jack Marks, Greg Cockerill, and Dustin Bentall, among others.

Band members are David Baxter (guitar), Burke Carroll (pedal Steel),
John Dinsmore (bass), Devon Henderson (bass), and Joshua Van Tassel (drums).

- Serena Ryder

"As a songwriter, Joshua is one of the bright lights on the Canadian scene, and has one of the best new voices I've heard. Both sonically and lyrically, his album towers above any first attempt I've heard recently. I'm going to wager that Joshua will be around for quite some time." - Justin Rutledge
