The Mariposa Folk Foundation and Lakehead University have partnered to offer three days of creative arts workshops on July 7, 8, 9 on the lead up to Mariposa Folk Festival.

Bring your inner creative magic to life by learning to do mouth synch and make puppets walk, talk, breathe, do aerobics, and sing. Personalize your own original puppet and take some magic home with you. *Note this course has a $10 materials fee, payable to the instructor.

Learn the basics of relief printing and create your own unique, handmade prints using soft lino blocks and water-based inks. *Note this course has a $10 material fee, payable to instructor.

Rething aperture and shutter speed by discovering techniques to control focus and motion in an exciting series of examples, lessons, and shooting opportunities. *Note: A digital camera that shoots manually is required for this course.

Further explore the medium of lino block printing by creating two-colour images and monotypes. Be inspired in your design by creations from other ArtsU courses. *Note: This course has a $5 material fee, payable to the instructor.

Draw inspiration from photos and paintings to write a lyric. Lyrics and accompanying visual art will be displayed at the festival.

Instructor Biographies

 

Alyssa Wright - This classically trained musician infuses roots and jazz with a delightful je ne sais quoi.

 

Juliana Hawke - Juliana is a painter and illustrator who lives and works in the beautiful rolling hills of Oro-Medonte Township.

 

Paul Court - Paul is a songwriter and promoter of original music, who has conducted songwriting workshops at folk festivals and other venues for the past several years.

 

Peter Stranks - Peter Stranks has worked on national advertising campaigns, magazine covers and editorial features for over two decades, working most recently on advertising for the film industry with celebrities like Steve Martin, Drew Barrymore, Hilary Duff, Eugene Levy and Harvey Keitel.

 

Roy Hickling - A multi-media artist whose powerful paintings and sculptures are regularly featured in numerous shows.

 

Fransi Andersson - Currently Teaching Puppetry to Children and Creating Creatures and Voices for Animation.
