Serena Ryder Joins the Mariposa Lineup

An already strong lineup for the 60th anniversary of Mariposa Folk Festival got a big boost today with the addition of multiple Juno Award-winner, Serena Ryder.

Ryder is an acclaimed artist who has charted many times in the U.S. and Canada, and is known for her raw talent, song writing flair, electric live performances and stunning three-octave vocal range. Included among her collection of hit tunes are Got Your Number, What I Wouldn’t Do, Good Morning Starshine, Weak in the Knees and Stompa.

Commenting on Ryder’s upcoming appearance at Mariposa Folk Festival, Festival Artistic Director, Liz Scott, stated, “Serena Ryder is a versatile, powerful performer whose live shows range from dynamic, rocking pop tunes to sweet ballads and everything in between”.

Scott Added, “She made a handful of very memorable appearances at Mariposa Folk Festival very early in her career, and we are excited to welcome her back after a decade-long absence to help us celebrate Mariposa’s 60th anniversary”.

Mariposa Folk Festival previously announced that John Prine, Mavis Staples and Mandolin Orange will perform on the festival Main Stage. The festival has announced about 30, or just over half, of the artists on this year’s roster, so far. More exciting lineup announcements will be made in the coming weeks.

The three-day Mariposa Folk Festival takes place July 3-5, 2020, in Orillia, Ontario, on more than ten stages, featuring top folk-roots music presentation, along with presentations of story, dance and craft.

All ticket categories are on sale. Kids 12 & under are admitted free. There is special pricing for youth and young adults. Onsite RV and tent camping is available.

The Board of Directors of Mariposa Folk Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Liz Scott of Meaford, Ontario, as Artistic Director of the storied Mariposa Folk Festival.

Scott is assuming the artistic mantle from long time Artistic Director, Mike Hill, who will continue contributing to the organization as a member of the Board of Directors and as a resource to Scott.

Commenting on Mike Hill’s rich legacy as Artistic Director, Mariposa Folk Foundation President, Pam Carter, expressed warm regards, “I know that I speak for the entire Mariposa family in expressing deep gratitude to Mike for his wonderful work over the past many years. He is stepping down as Artistic Director at a time when the festival has reached new popular, and artistic, heights”.

Welcoming Liz Scott to the Mariposa fold, Carter focused on the incumbent’s substantial experience in artistic direction and programming, “Liz comes to us with a strong artistic background. She also worked closely with Mike Hill in assembling the impressive artistic lineup of Mariposa Folk Festival 2017. We are very pleased to have Liz on board, and look forward to her artistic choices for the 2018 Mariposa Folk Festival and beyond.”

Liz Scott’s live music background includes serving as a presenter, promoter, artistic director, and agent, from house concerts to soft seat theatre shows to festivals. She has been bringing great folk and roots music to appreciative audiences for many years, including renowned artists such as Ron Sexsmith, Danny Michel, Hawksley Workman, Steve Poltz, Lynn Miles, Dala, Donovan Woods, Fred Eaglesmith, Séan McCann of Great Big Sea, Whitehorse, Liam Titcomb and more. Scott is a former Artistic Director at Eaglewood Folk Festival and Village Vibes at Blue Mountain Resort, and has served as a Juno Awards Judge, Folk Alliance International mentor, and is a current member of the Folk Music Ontario Board of Directors.

ennisNewfoundland has always always been known as a rich source of folk music, and that definitely holds true with this dynamic duo from ‘The Rock’.

There`s also something special that happens when family members sing together. Ennis, two sisters from St. John’s, prove this with each performance of their flawless harmonies laid over music that is true to their Newfoundland musical roots.

They draw on traditional maritime influences but also infuse contemporary elements into their music with a passion that comes out in each note.

Ennis, and their earlier incarnation, The Ennis Sisters, has received a lot of acclaim including a Juno award, SOCAN award, and multiple ECMA and Music NL awards.
