Mariposa Folk Foundation | Media Accreditation

Media Accreditation

Media accreditation for Mariposa Folk Festival 2020 will open in May.

Please be aware that the criteria for media accreditation is as follows:

  • Restricted to media outlets reporting on the Festival.
  • Reporters receiving accreditation must commit to publishing/broadcasting/reporting
  • Media outlets that publish/broadcast/report Mariposa content in the weeks leading up to the Festival receive automatic accreditation if the coverage is verifiable.
  • Press applying for accreditation for the first time will be required to explain how they intend to publish/broadcast/report the content.
  • Returning media may be required to demonstrate that they published/broadcast/reported content in the days following the last festival they attended and/or in the weeks leading up to that festival.
  • Freelance reporters, photographers and/or videographers reporting on the Festival must demonstrate that they are under commission, and that the content will be published/broadcast/reported.

Additional Criteria (Non-Traditional Media Applicants):

Applications will be assessed through objective and subjective analyses in order to determine whether the reporting could be expected to provide reasonable added value to the festival. Considerations will include:

  • The relative reach of the media with regard to readership, viewership, followers and other relevant metrics.
  • The relevance of the editorial focus with regard to Mariposa’s mandate.
  • The quality of the publishing/broadcasting.

Rules, Access & Privileges

  • No festival content, whether photo, audio, video or written account, may be offered for sale to a third party. Freelancing is allowed, but freelancers must be working under contract to a media outlet/platform, and not on speculation.
  • Media will be provided full access to the festival, including the restricted area commonly known as the Corral in front of the main stage.
  • Media will not be provided with any festival hospitality.
  • Media will generally be allowed only one representative reporting or covering the festival at any one time. However, the festival will use discretion in granting accreditation to one additional reporter upon request, if a legitimate technical, operational or workflow rationale is provided.
  • Accrediting the spouse or a guest of media is not allowed, unless it is demonstrated that that person will be performing a legitimate technical, operational or workflow function.
  • Media is responsible for ensuring that their publishing/broadcasting is compliant with copyright law, and for securing all necessary waivers from rights holders.

Additional Note for Festival Media Partners

Please note that Media Accreditation is for individuals reporting on the festival, only. If you are a media representative, but not personally reporting on the festival, Media Accreditation is not for you. Please see the person in your media outlet who negotiated the Festival Media Partnership with Mariposa for details of your media outlet’s festival benefits.
