The Mariposa Folk Foundation and Lakehead University have partnered to offer two days of creative arts workshops on July 2nd and 3rd on the lead up to Mariposa Folk Festival.
Thursday at 7:00pm at Location 1 With: Peter Stranks Learn skills needed for self-expression through inventive photographic techniques. Students will use their own digital cameras (point and shoot or single lens reflex) to try out what they learn. Knowing how to transfer images to CD or store on USB drive is necessary. Thursday at 7:00pm at Location 2 With: Alyssa Wright Toss away those excuses - everyone can train their voice with posture, breathing, placement and projection of sound. Whether you're a performer or a shower singer, this course will give you the tools to take your voice to the next level. Don't worry, you won't have to sing solo - unless the spirit moves you! Friday at 9:00am at Location 1 With: Juliana Hawke Explore your visual creativity through this introductory printmaking class. Learn the basics of relief printing and create your own unique, handmade prints using soft lino blocks, cutting tools, non-toxic inks and a variety of papers. No art experience necessary. Friday at 1:00pm at Location 2 With: Paul Court Learn the fundamentals of songwriting through activities and practical tips. Exercises will inspire you to write even if you never have before. Bring an instrument if you wish, but it is not required.

Instructor Biographies
Alyssa Wright - This classically trained musician infuses roots and jazz with with a delightful je ne sais quoi.
Juliana Hawke - Julianna is a painter and illustrator who lives and works in Oro-Medonte Township. Her work consists of nature images rendered in a variety of media, including watercolour, pen and ink, pastels and various methods of printmaking. Julianna has illustrated several books and created artwork for organizations such as Parks Canada, Environment Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Ontario Hydro. Julianna has been teaching art workshops for ten years.
Paul Court - Paul is a songwriter and promoter of original music, who has conducted songwriting workshops at folk festivals and other venues for the past three years. Paul's recent project with Susan Charters, Blood and Fire, has garnered rave reviews. His songs have been recorded by other artists, including one co-written with roots musician Don Bray which appeared on last summer's Mariposa Folk Festival CD. Paul is the founder of the Barrie and District Association of Singer/Songwriters, a founding member of the Orillia Folk Society and the convener of the Singer/Songwriter Wildfire Weekends.
Peter Stranks - Peter Stranks is a Toronto based photographer living with his wife and two children in Orillia. A Ryerson graduate, his assignments have taken him throughout North America and as far away as Morocco. Stranks has worked on national advertising campaigns, magazine covers and editorial features for over two decades, working most recently on advertising for the film industry with celebrities like Steve Martin, Drew Barrymore, Hilary Duff, Eugene Levy and Harvey Keitel. He has recently completed a highly successful one man show at OMAH, where one of his pieces was acquired for the permanent collection. He has taught in recent years at the Canadian Photographic
Centre in Toronto where the Globe & Mail has referred to him as an " inspiring instructor. " For Dove and the Campaign for Real Beauty, he co-taught a week-end workshop that led thirty girls ages 8 to 15 to shoot over 5000 images that ultimately became the 2007 Dove Calendar for Real Beauty.
